Castaway returned seven years on, this time filmed on the other side of the world - an island in New Zealand.
With a new shape and new twists, the underlying intentions stayed the same: take a group of Brits as far away from their current lives as possible - physically, psychologically, and emotionally.
Let them explore what's really important to them and discover how they shape their community.
Presented by Danny Wallace, the show tossed together a group of castaways that reflected all aspects of British life: variety of ages; all backgrounds; a variety of skills or none; a range of personalities.
The castaways explored the best ways to live in close quarters with people they may not have much in common with, drew on personal skills to develop the infrastructure of the island and, in the process, discovered more about themselves as individuals.
Castaway also featured an acclaimed Red Button companion show called Danny's Diary, a comprehensive website and interactive game called Castaway: Remote Control. Read more about those here.
