In 1953, the newly-crowned Queen Elizabeth set off on a very special journey: a Coronation Tour of the Empire. It remains to this day the longest tour ever undertaken by a British monarch. It would change Britain's relationship with the world forever.
Now Kwame Kwei-Armah retraces her journey across five continents - from the Caribbean, Australasia and the Pacific Islands, to Asia, Africa and the Mediterranean. This 4-part series tells the story of Britain's fight to keep its status as a world power, even while its Empire was slipping away. It is also the story of a 27-year-old woman sent on a mission to re-establish Britain's place in the world.
