The Hottest Place On Earth

2x60 mins

The Danakil Depression - officially the hottest place on earth. Temperatures can reach 60 degrees Celsius.

There is almost no water. It is one of the most geologically active areas on the planet, where volcanoes and earthquakes rip the earth apart opening vast fissures in a matter of hours.

Yet somehow people live here - the Afar, a legendary warrior tribe, who rely on their camels and goats for survival.

A team of experts make the very tough journey to the Danakil to see how its people and animals survive, and to use 3D laser mapping technology to make the first ever scan of the inside of a live volcano.
