Castaway

Series following 36 volunteers spending the year 2000 on the island of Taransay, to find out what happens when a cross-section of British people try to create a new society.

This social experiment explores the problems of a community of men, women and children working and living self-sufficiently, while coping with hundred mile an hour winds and stormy seas.

It also highlights the key issues of living as an individual within a group – from romance and friendship, to homophobia and racism.

Castaway returns seven years on for Castaway 2007, this time to a remote island in New Zealand where 15 British volunteers live as a community for three months on the other side of the world.
