Clare Balding's Secrets of a Suffragette

Claire Balding examines the story of Emily Davison, her death at the Derby and the Suffragette movement.

June 4th 2013 is the centenary of the Suffragette Derby in which Emily Wilding Davison threw herself under the King’s horse and was fatally injured. Astonishingly, the moment was captured on no less than 3 newsreel cameras.

Working with a team of forensic experts, Clare Balding analyses the newsreel footage in frame by frame detail to uncover what really happened that day.

Is it possible, by re-examining the footage, to reveal a new interpretation of Emily’s actions?

Clare and the forensic team uncover new evidence that they feel will once and for all change our view of Emily Davison, the mad woman who threw herself under the King’s horse.
